Series: The Gospel of John

Passage: John 19:1-42

Speaker: jeff blaine

What happens when we don’t accept Jesus’ rule, kingship, or authority in our life?
The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so Romans 8:6-7
The mind that is it’s own ruler, king, or authority is what? death
The mind that is it’s own ruler, king, or authority is what to God?
Hostile
In church, among church people many of us would deny any hostility to God, His Son Jesus, or the Spirit…
Is that true?
A mature question might ask: what does hostility to God look like?
We are about to step into a pit of crocodiles…John 19 is a nasty, snarling mess of hostility towards Jesus.
It doesn’t end well for Jesus because if you recall our verse in Romans 8…when the mind is its own ruler, king, or authority…what happens?
Death
Who dies in John 19? Jesus…how come?
Because the people killing Jesus in John 19 don’t want Jesus as their ruler, king, or authority.
Do people today still crucify Jesus? Yes they do…
