John 13 is mind boggling…most of us have some criteria before we serve others.
If it’s family…yes, I’ll serve them, but it’ll only be if I can tolerate them, depends on if they’ve done anything for me, must be on my terms: when I want to do it & if I want to do it
If it’s fellow Christians… yes, I’ll serve them, but it’ll only be if I can tolerate them, depends on if they’ve done anything for me, must be on my terms: when I want to do it & if I want to do it
If it’s a non-believer…yes, I’ll serve them, but they must fit my profile of people I like to be around…their appearance, if they have a job, their past history, depending on when I want to do it & if I want to do it
If you study the gospels, there is at least one question you will have to reckon: was Jesus partial to who He served?
Jesus wasn’t partial…that means that since you & I must be like Jesus when serving others there are no favorites when we serve.
So, then when it comes to serving others…how is it that all of us in some way, shape, form, or fashion have favorites when it comes to who we serve?
It’s based on the example we are following.
When we put a criterion on who we serve & when we serve…we are following an example that is not like Jesus.
Too often we are serving ourselves which is our flesh…Jesus doesn’t serve Himself…Jesus serves our Father & people
Let’s see how we can be inspired by Jesus to serve our Father & others…without showing partiality.
